We all feel fear. It’s a primal emotion, that’s deeply ingrained in human evolution, essential for our survival in the face of danger.

But what happens when we experience prolonged states of fear? When we let fear invade our lives multiple times per day?

Today on I Love Me The Podcast, we learn how to love away our fear, so it doesn’t cripple our immune system and get in the way of us living healthy, happy lives.

Yes, today we dive into the physical mechanics of fear, and why it’s absolutely vital for not only our mental health but our physical health, to learn how to work with fear, so it doesn’t make us sick.

About me…

My name is Tamra Mercieca and I’ve been studying and teaching self-love worldwide for 20+ years now. In 2011 I launched my online school Getting Naked where I offer programs to help people strip off the stories and childhood conditioning, so they can fall in love with themselves.

While I go by many labels - mumma, wife, tea lover, drummer - professionally I’m known as a Self-Love Therapist, Writer and Women’s Pelvic Health Guide, qualified in over a dozen physical and mental health modalities. I’m the author of two books, have been published in dozens of print and online publications, appeared on TV many times, and love to share the teachings of self-love at yoga and spirituality festivals.

Personally, my journey began when I worked out how to overcome suicidal depression and anxiety (and get off my meds). I then went on to create a ten-session program where I now help others do the same. Fear has this remarkable ability to immobilise us. To make us second-guess our decisions, our actions…  And keep us rooted in the familiar.

But what if we could have a different relationship with fear? What if, instead of seeing fear as scary - a reason to run away and hide - we saw fear as a guiding force, nudging us towards our fullest potential?

Today on I Love Me the Podcast, we explore the two types of fear, and how to welcome and work with these fears, each time they come a knockin’ on our proverbial door of life.

I love this quote from the Dalai Lama: ‘Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible’. Always possible, but not always practiced.

Hence why I invite you to consider for a moment…

- Are you being kind?
- Kind to yourself?
- Kind to the people around you?
- Do you move through your day with the intention of being kind?

Kindness is a necessary path to self-love. It’s something we can practise to help us deepen our love for ourself, and as a result, deepen our love and respect for those around us.

So today on I Love Me The Podcast, let’s explore how we can be kinder in the way we approach ourselves and how we approach life.

There is no such thing as a grey sky. The sky is always blue. Sometimes, however, grey clouds come and cover the blue sky. And this can make us ‘think’ the sky is grey. Well, it’s the same with our minds.

The blue sky can be likened to our True Self; the part of us that is free from the conditioning of our mind. The part of us that sees our brilliance. The part of us that was always designed to be our wise guide. That is our blue sky. And just as the blue sky is always there, so too is our True Self, always there.

It’s just that sometimes grey clouds - we can liken the grey clouds to our Ego… Sometimes those clouds come in from time-to-time, and block out the blue sky. The blue sky is still there. It’s just that we can’t see it. And for some people it may feel like they’re constantly living under a cover of grey clouds. Their Ego ALWAYS the one in charge, of their thoughts, their emotions and their decisions.

What we need to understand, is that we are NOT the grey clouds. We are so much more than that. And we get to choose whether our sky is blue, or covered in grey. We get to choose whether we’re being guided through life by our True Self or our Ego. That is a choice. And that’s what we explore on today’s episode of I Love Me The Podcast.

If you’ve been on this journey with me for a while now, you’ll know we all have a True Self; a guiding light within us - a place of inner wisdom - that’s free from the negative chatter of the mind.

Well, we also have what Sigmund Freud coined back in the 19th century, as an ‘Ego’. Ahhh, the Ego… Our misunderstood travelling companion, often blamed for our inner turmoil.

The question I invite you to consider: Is the Ego truely the villain it’s painted out to be?

Today on I Love Me The Podcast, I invite you to get to know your Ego, unravel it’s true purpose, and reimagine its role in the grand journey that is your life. Yes, today we’ll learn how the Ego can actually support you in loving and accepting yourself that little bit more each day.

Ok, let’s be honest…There are a LOT of coffee lovers out there. You may be one of them. I was one of them, for almost 20 years. But then 10 years ago, something changed for me… And I gave up coffee… for good!

In this week’s episode on I Love Me The Podcast, I share:
How coffee makes depression and anxiety worse
How coffee puts the body into a low-level state of anxiety (even if you’re not generally an anxious person)
How coffee depletes your adrenal system, making you more prone to getting sick
How drinking coffee drowns out your inner voice of guidance (and leaves you feeling less connected)
And most importantly… How to lovingly ease yourself off coffee so you can reap all the mental, physical and spiritual benefits.

I know for the seasoned coffee lover, just the ‘idea’ of giving up coffee will sound totally ludicrous to you. But please, just have a listen, and then make up your beautiful mind.

When was the last time you had a really good belly laugh? Where you couldn’t stop yourself laughing? Where you laughed so hard that your belly actually started to hurt? Do you remember such a time?

In today’s fast-paced, pressure-filled world it’s way too easy to get bogged down in the serious aspects of daily living… So much so, that we practically forget how to laugh. And over the years the general population has only become more serious..

Today on I Love me The Podcast we explore how laughing, and laughing often, can not only improve our mental health, but our physical health too. Yes, laughter is portable, immediate medicine, we all need to dose up on!

Depression is no walk in the park. I’ve been there, done that. And decided it wasn’t for me! Yes, in my 20s I was experiencing severe clinical depression, and was on the verge of being put in a mental home, after continual attempts to take my own life.

What changed? I changed. I decided to start loving myself, instead of hating myself. And over the course of the next few years, I said good bye to the meds, good bye to the depression, and hello to the life I now love so dearly.

Today on I Love Me with Tamra Mercieca, I share the very real journey of depression - the one I experienced first hand - and the steps I needed to take in order to overcome my mental health struggles for good.

It’s my intention that sharing my story here today, will inspire you, offer you hope, and give you the insight you need to start your journey to a healthier, happier you. Please know that however dark your days, all you need is a willingness to love yourself, and then love yourself a little bit more each day.

So whether you’re struggling with your own mental health or supporting someone who’s in the throws of a mental illness, may you leave this episode knowing that depression is NOT a life sentence, and that you can break free, so you can enjoy the life you are here to live.
